Dreadmoor System Requirements (2026)
Official Dreadmoor PC requirements: minimum GTX 1060 / i5-8400, recommended RTX 4060 / i5-12400F, DirectX 12, 60 GB storage. Verified September 25, 2026.
Last updated: September 25, 2026
These are Dreadmoor's official PC system requirements from the Steam listing, re-checked against Steam's store data on September 25, 2026. The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, ships with DirectX 12, and needs a 60 GB install. Below the table: what each line means for a real machine, what the two tiers actually separate, and the cautions worth knowing before the demo.
| Spec | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 or higher | Windows 10 or higher |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i5-12400F / AMD Ryzen 5 5600 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| GPU | Nvidia GTX 1060 (6 GB) / AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB) | Nvidia RTX 4060 / AMD Radeon RX 7600 |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 60 GB available space | 60 GB available space |
| Sound | DirectX-compatible sound card | DirectX-compatible sound card |
How to read these specs
- The recommended tier targets ray tracing. The developer FAQ states the game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and recommends "a PC that can handle Ray tracing smoothly." An RTX 4060 or RX 7600 sits at that level; older GTX 10-series cards in the minimum tier should expect to run without the fancy lighting.
- 60 GB is a big install for an indie — clear space before the October 6, 2026 demo, which uses the same Steam installation flow.
- DirectX 12 and Windows 10+ mean Windows-only; there is no mac or Linux build (platform details).

What each line means for your machine
CPU: the minimum tier (an i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600) is roughly a 2017 mid-range desktop chip; the recommended tier (i5-12400F or Ryzen 5 5600) is a 2021–2022 one. A four-core CPU at the minimum level is expected to cope — the game streams a semi-open world, but nothing official suggests heavy simulation load.
GPU: this is the line that separates the tiers. A GTX 1060 6 GB / RX 580 8 GB gets you in; an RTX 4060 / RX 7600 is what the developers consider the smooth ray tracing experience. If your GPU predates the minimum tier, the demo will tell you quickly and for free.
Memory and storage: 8 GB of RAM is the floor, 16 GB the comfort zone. The 60 GB storage line is large for an indie title and reflects Unreal Engine 5 asset sizes — an SSD is not listed as a requirement, but load times on a spinning drive will not be pretty.
Laptops: judge a laptop by its GPU, not its CPU model number. Many laptops with strong CPUs ship with entry-level GPUs; compare your GPU against the minimum tier above before the demo rather than after.
Two cautions from the game's history
- Requirements can still change before launch. The game is unreleased, and specs have wobbled during development — older cached store pages still show a previous DirectX 11 / RTX 3070 configuration on some regional pages. The English store page (and the table above, dated September 25, 2026) is the current one, and it is worth a re-check when the Q4 2026 release date is announced.
- Playtest spec sheets are historical. The August 2026 playtest announced its own requirement rows that do not match the store page; treat any playtest-era performance advice the same way — as history, not current guidance.
A note on real-world performance
No official performance targets (fps presets, resolutions) have been published yet. Community videos from the playtests — including Steam Deck comparisons — exist, but they describe older builds. The October 6, 2026 demo is the first build worth benchmarking, and it is free: try it before you buy, on whatever hardware you have.
When the demo lands, the useful checks are simple and quick: frame rate at your display's resolution, load times after the opening area, and whether the night lighting — the ray tracing showcase — survives contact with your GPU. Those three numbers will answer more than any spec-sheet comparison online.
Dreadmoor system requirements FAQ
Can I run Dreadmoor on 8 GB of RAM?
That is the official minimum, so yes by the letter of the spec — with the usual caveat that minimums assume the rest of your system is not also loading a browser, Discord, and a stream. 16 GB is the comfortable answer.
Is ray tracing required?
No. The minimum tier (GTX 1060 / RX 580) predates mainstream ray tracing hardware. The developer's ray tracing comment describes the recommended experience, not a requirement.
Do these requirements apply to the demo?
No separate demo specs have been published; the store table describes the game. The demo installs through the same Steam flow, and the safest assumption is that it performs similarly — which is exactly what testing it for free will tell you.
Will the requirements change before release?
Possibly — the game is unreleased and specs have wobbled during development (cached pages still show an older DirectX 11 / RTX 3070 configuration). This page re-verifies against the live store data; the date stamp above is your guide.
Can my laptop run Dreadmoor?
Compare your laptop's GPU, not its CPU, against the minimum tier: GTX 1060 6 GB / RX 580 8 GB is the floor. Many laptops pair strong CPUs with weak GPUs, and the GPU is what decides it here.
Why does Dreadmoor need 60 GB?
The listing gives no breakdown, but Unreal Engine 5 titles carry large asset packages — and a semi-open flooded world with dense vegetation, ruins, and water simulation is asset-heavy by nature. The number is the same for both spec tiers.
Should I install Dreadmoor on an SSD?
An SSD is not listed as a requirement. Practically, a 60 GB Unreal Engine 5 world will load noticeably slower from a spinning drive, so if you have both, install on the SSD — especially for the demo, where first impressions include load times.
Where do I find the official requirements?
On the game's Steam store page, in the system requirements section — the same source this page re-verifies. Anything that disagrees with the store page, including cached regional pages and playtest-era spec sheets, is outdated.
